WIBC IN HARTFORD
Date: 1987
Hartford (home of the NHL’s Whalers) welcomed 37,633 bowlers to the two-month-long Women’s International Bowling Congress in 1987. Connecticut had long been home to some of the most avid enthusiasts of women’s sports and it was a natural choice for Hartford to host the tournament. Marion Robutka, then aged 71, rolled out the ceremonial first ball in honor of her service as a founder and first president of the Greater Hartford Women’s Bowling Association.
