THE BUZZ IN KANSAS CITY
The 1963 BPAA All-Star Tournament, held at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri, from January 16-26, featured bowling legend Buzz Fazio, pictured here during an interview. While Fazio didn’t secure a top-16 finish in this tournament, his reputation in the bowling world was already well-established. During the 1950s, he gained widespread recognition through appearances on bowling TV shows like Make That Spare, Bowling for Dollars and Championship Bowling. In 1955, Fazio clinched the ABC Masters Singles Championship, solidifying his status as a bowling icon. Following his participation in the Kansas City event, Fazio went on to achieve additional success, capturing two PBA titles in 1964. Notably, in December 1964, at the age of 56, Fazio made history by becoming the oldest man to win a PBA Tour Championship, a remarkable record that held until 1995 when John Handegard secured victory at the age of 57.
