THE BIGGEST BOWLERS OF THE ERA
Date: January 12, 1960
Given her huge presence on the bowling world, it was fitting for Marion Ladewig to pose with larger-than-life bowling equipment. She joined Billy Welu outside an Omaha arena hosting the 19th annual BPAA All-Star Tournament. The pair were the tournament’s defending national champions after taking the women’s and men’s titles in 1959. Though they came up short in the 1960 All-Star series (Ladewig finished runner-up while Welu finished in seventh place), the two were among the most celebrated bowling figures of the era.
