THE BALL THE BROKE A RECORD
Date: May 1, 1999
For nearly 40 years, the pinnacle of success in team bowling was defined by the Budweisers record score of 3,858 set in 1958. The score was bested by exactly 10 points by the Hurst Bowling Supplies team of Luzerne, Pennsylvania, in 1994. Five years later, the record was shattered when the Just-Us-Tree Service team walked onto the lanes at the Toledo Sports Center in Detroit, Michigan. During the three-game series, Verlin Terry, David Boyd, Steve Bradley, Carleton Chambers and Earl Justice scored a 3,870, setting a new high-score record for the second time in five years.
