TEDDY ROOSEVELT SETS UP THE NEXT STRIKE
Date: 1907
Given bowling’s growing popularity in the early twentieth century, it is no surprise that political satirists would choose it as settings for their cartoons. In 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt was preparing to leave the White House, having promised to not seek a third term. Roosevelt supported his vice president and political protege William Howard Taft in the election of 1908, and, given the former’s immense popularity, it is no surprise that he was able to set up his favorites and score a political strike.
