SWEET SIXTEEN
Date: ca. 1950s
St. Louis Budweisers team member Don McClaren posed with Marion Ladewig and two sets of Brunswick Red Crown King pins marked with the number 16. McClaren impressed during his morning round of the All-Star Bowling Tournament on December 9, 1951. He finished the third game with 10 straight strikes, then opened the fourth game with six more for 16 strikes in a row. For her part, Ladewig won the women’s special match that day with 773 pins to the second-place finisher’s 691. McClaren kept up with Ladewig over the years, saying in 1961 that “She’s just fantastic. Marion is a tremendous bowler.”
