STRIKE IT LUCKY
Date: 1960s, 1970s
Bowling made an easy transition from alley to television set. The drama was high and audience wide, making the sport a popular subject for televisions shows and specials. Strike it Lucky aired during the 1960s and ’70s. The premise was simple enough: contestants bowled for the chance to win cash and prizes. The Bowling Proprietor’s Association of America (BPAA) proved a natural ally for the show; hopeful contestants needed to qualify at one of their local alleys, perhaps needing to return more than once to make the cut.
