RECRUITING YOUNG BOWLERS

Under the leadership of Milton Raymer, membership in the American Junior Bowling Congress exploded from 10,000 members in 1946 to 400,000 members in 1961. His recruiting methods included tireless promotional campaigns, the establishment of bowling schools and protocols for training instructors. His step-by-step instructions for setting up a bowling school allowed any alley in the country to teach kids to bowl. Rapid improvements in bowling technology, which sped up the game and made scoring easier, likely contributed to bowling’s rise in popularity with American kids.
