RECORDS IN FROG TOWN
Date: 1922
The 1922 American Bowling Congress tournament in Toledo, Ohio, shattered records set in 1921 by the annual tournament in Buffalo, furthering a long-running rivalry between Steel Belt cities. Toledo was sometimes called “Frog Town,” a nod to the indigenous amphibians who made themselves heard in the city on the edge of the Great Black Swamp. More than 1,100 teams were entered into the 1922 tournament, competing for more than $50,000 in prizes.
