PIN BOY STEIN
Date: late 1800s
Sure the porcelain pin boy is cool, but take a peek at what’s hiding at the bottom of this unique stein! German firm Schierholz & Sohn saw early success as a porcelain manufacturer before expanding into the world of character steins. Arguably the most interesting contribution of the company was their work with lithophanes, translucent porcelain molding that reveals artistic design when back-lit, which they started using in 1849. The lithophane on this stein is particularly rare owing to the detailed coloring. Watch a video!
