MOVING TO MINNEAPOLIS
Date: 1958
In a historic departure from tradition, the 17th BPAA All-Star Tournament broke away from its Chicago roots. Instead, from January 10-19, 1958, Minneapolis, Minnesota, took the spotlight as the host city, with the tournament unfolding at the Minneapolis National Guard Armory. Notably, this marked the tournament’s first-ever January scheduling, deviating from its customary December dates. The illustrious Don Carter emerged victorious in the men’s division, while Merle Matthews clinched the women’s division title.
