MONTANA TERRITORY LANES
Date: 1883
Laton Alton Huffman was a photographer of the American frontier, particularly known for his photos of cattle ranching and Native American groups. He headed west at age 25, settling in Miles City in the Montana Territory, a community which sprouted up in the late 1870s near Fort Keogh after the Battle of the Little Bighorn. He snapped this shot in 1883. Visible in the blustery main street is a bowling alley. Even in the earliest years of a community’s establishment, the residents saw fit to erect of a bowling alley. What better way to spend the time?
