LUCKY LANES IN OMAHA
Date: December 16, 1959
Crews were hard at work installing lanes at the Civic Auditorium ahead of the 19th Annual BPAA All-Star Tournament in Omaha. The new 24-lane layout was specially constructed for the Auditorium. During the tournament, lanes Nos. 23-24 gained a winning reputation after Sylvia Wene rolled a perfect 300 and other competitors scored a 299 and a 289. When someone else rolled a 300 on lanes Nos. 9-10, attendees asked maintenance manager Joe Norris what he did to make them as special as Nos. 23-24. “It was easy, last night between shifts, we just switched the pairs of lanes,” Norris joked.
