LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD
Date: December 26, 1959
Workers carefully sanded the lanes to be used for the 19th Annual BPAA All-Star Tournament in Omaha. A crew of 60 carpenters took on the task of installing 24 lanes at the Civic Auditorium, which included more than 37,000 feet of maple and 37,000 feet of pine. A total of 198,142 nails held together the wood. It may have seemed like a mammoth project, but the lanes were ready (and perfectly even!) for the start of the tournament in January 1960.
