CHEESE & SKITTLES
Date: undated
For half a century, Lin Kessler traveled across Europe amassing a collection of antique bowling pins and balls. He encountered pieces from a variety of bowling games, the details of which are often mysterious. But this torpedo-shaped pin in the collection is no mystery. It was likely used in Skittles, a European lawn game played both indoors and outdoors. The game uses a nine-pin diamond setup, and, instead of a ball, a large flat wooden disc called a “cheese” is hurled at the pins.
