DOC’S DIAGRAM
Date: July 29, 1940
Robert “Doc” Hinkley, a lifelong recreational bowler, saw an opening for a unique business involving custom fit bowling balls. Known as the Doctor of Bowling, Hinkley established Hinkley Bowling Supply Company in La Brea, California, with one goal in mind: fitting bowling balls to the individual bowler’s hand. He designed his equipment and, during the 1940s, claimed to have the only business of its kind. Hinkley also led bowling clinics, but he knew that the best way to improve a game was to get a ball that fit.
