BOWLING ON THE BASE
Date: undated
In the years after World War II, U.S. servicemen deployed overseas often set up bowling alleys for entertainment when they weren’t on duty. The Naval Air Station Keflavik, a United States Navy base in southwest Iceland, boasted a bowling alley along with other recreational centers. The base was of particular importance during the Cold War, when it served as a waystation for military shipments and housed jet interceptors.
