Berdie Speck knew how to put on a women’s bowling tournament. The secretary of the St. Louis Women’s Bowling Association had experience with regional tournaments featuring hundreds of bowlers, making her an ideal candidate for a leadership role in the Women’s International Bowling Congress, for whom she helped run the annual tournament in 1940 in St. Louis.
