ANDERSON’S HAND RAIL
Date: 1946
After an injury blinded Bob Anderson, he began developing techniques for bowling while blind. Anderson was guided by the principle that recreation could help the blind feel more connected to a world they could not see. He invented a hand rail to guide the approach and felt that the device was a simple but hugely effective way to allow blind bowlers to engage the sport with ease. Anderson started a sports program for the blind in Los Angeles, California, offering instructional classes to blind bowlers of all ages.
