A TEAM PLAYER
Date: 1940
Before taking the bowling world by storm as a solo competitor, Marion Ladewig (far left) participated in doubles and team play early in her career. Ladewig joined a Grand Rapids squad with (left to right) Mille Buwem, Minnie Sackerman, Bert Rosely and Marie Boluyt for the 1940 American Women’s Bowling Classic in Chicago. It was the first time in the tournament’s history women bowlers from any state could join. Nearly 1,500 teams entered the competition, including strong representation from Michigan.
