A PINSPOTTER PIONEER
Date: 1946
American Machine and Foundry (AMF) was founded in 1900 and began manufacturing bowling equipment in the 1930s. After nearly a decade of experimentation, the company introduced the first automatic pin-setting machine in 1946. It was demonstrated at the American Bowling Congress tournament in Buffalo, New York that same year and was eventually approved for official use. In 1952, the AMF Pinspotter went into full production and installation. By speeding up play, the machine helped transform bowling into one of the nation’s most popular sports.
