- A MILLION DOLLAR DEAL
A MILLION DOLLAR DEAL
Date: 1960s, 1970s
Don Carter’s name carried a lot of weight in the bowling world. He had been a champion bowler since the 1950s and was a member of the record-breaking 1958 Budweisers team. It is not difficult to see why Ebonite wanted him as a spokesman. In 1964, Carter and Ebonite inked a $1 million deal, the largest sports endorsement deal at the time. As a spokesman, Carter promoted the Ebonite Gyro-balanced ball. This rubber ball that was highly customizable from finger hole placement and size to the placement of the internal core’s pin.
