Held at the coliseum of the state fairgrounds in Detroit, Michigan, the 1940 American Bowling Congress Tournament broke records in more ways than one! It boasted 6,073 team entries, a new high. The 100,000 spectators over the 62-day tournament set another extraordinary record. The Chicago Monarchs captured the 1940 team championship with a score of 3,047. Ray Brown of Terre Haute, Indiana, secured the singles championship (and a $300 cash prize) with a score of 742.
