A FIRST IN MINNEAPOLIS
Date: 1958
In 1958, for the first time in its history, the BPAA All-Star Tournament was not in Chicago. From January 10 to 19, 192 men and 96 women congregated at the National Guard Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to bowl in the 17th All-Star Tournament. Don Carter, who picked up right where he left off from winning the 1956 tournament, took home the men’s trophy and the $5,000 prize. Merle Matthews bested previous winner Marion Ladewig to win the women’s tournament and a prize of $2,000.
