ALLEYS & LANES
Just as American tenpin bowling was a phenomenon all its own, American bowling centers also took on a distinctly American flavor. Bowling alleys transformed from small establishments with a few lanes and a few billiard tables to massive entertainment centers with nightclub-esque features. As bowling saw more popularity between the 1940s and 1970s, bowling centers seemed to be competing with one another to grow larger and larger and to secure the newest decor and equipment. These mid-century bowling establishments led directly to the bowling centers of today, complete with arcade games, bars and restaurants.
