CARTER TOES THE FOUL LINE
Date: April 10, 1971
Jimmy Carter: peanut farmer, president and…bowler? While still governor of Georgia, Jimmy Carter rolled the first ball at the Annual Women’s Bowling Congress Tournament, kicking off the team events at the Decatur Suburban Lanes. Then-Governor Carter, who had not bowled in six years, knocked down three pins on his first roll and almost fell face first on the lane during his second roll. It was the first time the organization had held the event in Georgia. The theme that year was pink, complete with pink balls, pink dresses and pink decor.
