THE BRAINS AT BRUNSWICK
Date: 1950s, 1960s
When the Brunswick-Balke-Collender Company (now known as the Brunswick Corporation) released their automatic pinsetter in the mid-1950s, the machine’s “magic brains” proved quite the draw for alleys. The brains were a system in which fallen pins were removed and standing pins replaced before a bowler’s second roll. Brunswick’s Automatics were a huge success for the company, increasing stock prices and making Brunswick one of the top names in bowling.
