CHANGE IN PHILLY
The 1965 BPAA All-Star Tournament, hosted at the Philadelphia Convention Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, marked an expansion in participation, featuring larger fields of 432 men and 216 women compared to the previous year’s 288 men and 144 women. Significant changes included the introduction of separate divisions for match-play finals after the qualifying round, which divided both men and women into American and National divisions. Regular match-play continued until the men completed 56 games, and the women 44 games. In the TV roll-offs, bowlers in corresponding positions from the separate divisions engaged in thrilling three-game matches to determine the ultimate winners. Dick Weber (second from left) and Ann Slattery (second from right) won the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively, while Jim St. John (far left) and Sandy Hooper (far right) secured second place.
