FASHIONABLE FOUL
At a time when tenpin bowling was about to enter its golden age, duckpin bowling was also finding new audiences. A variant on contemporary bowling that uses shorter, squatter pins and softball-sized balls, duckpin may not be as widely played as its tenpin cousin, but the game remains a favorite to many. This silk shirt from the 1930s belonged to a member of the Diamond Club, a duckpin bowling team from Baltimore, Maryland. For decades it was widely believed that duckpin bowling was created at a Baltimore bar in 1900, though historians have found that it was played in the Northeast in the late 1800s, its connection to the Charm City remains strong today as Baltimore boasts several establishments exclusively devoted to duckpin.
