Bowling’s beer leagues were enormously popular during the early-to mid-twentieth century. These leagues often drew in local sponsors, as was the case with the Monarch Beer team in Chicago. This particular shirt belonged to Herbert Lange, a famed bowler from the area. In addition to Monarch Beer, Lange bowled for Quaker Oats, Oh Henry!, and Chapin & Gore. His monogram is visible on the left sleeve.
