Candlepin bowling is one of the oldest tenpin variants, with origins in the 1880s. The pins themselves are much thinner than tenpins, hence their name. Candlepin remains popular in the United States, though primarily in New England, particularly Massachusetts. Local TV stations in New England even broadcast candlepin bowling.
